Juventus player ratings vs Genoa: Juve gifted 3 points by Genoa
By John Vaccaro
CAM: Federico Bernardeschi 6/10
Everything about this match seemed forced from Federico Bernardeschi. It’s understandable why that would happen. Many people have been critical of Bernardeschi’s performances this year and his finishing issues against Lecce didn’t make things any better for him. Unfortunately, everything he forced just made Juve’s job more difficult in this match. He tried to force passes through and it cost Juve possession. He took questionable shots and it ended Juve attacks and gave Genoa the chance to reset. Bernardeschi’s time in the starting lineup may have officially come to an end in this match as Douglas Costa returned with every intention of taking back his job.
ST: Cristiano Ronaldo 6.5/10
Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo did score the winning goal in this match, but that doesn’t change how poorly he played. Much like I don’t count allowing penalties against keepers, I don’t see converting a penalty as something that should boost a player’s rating by much. It’s something that is supposed to happen. That means the fact that Ronaldo squandered the few chances he was given the penalty are all that really matter. He should have made more of an impact against a Genoa defense that had allowed at least 3 goals in every match they had played on the road this season. Having been rested against Lecce, I was hoping we’d see a revitalized Ronaldo take over this match. Instead, we were left with disappointment
ST: Paulo Dybala 7.5/10
There are very few players that I would say played well in this match for Juve. Paulo Dybala is one of those few. While Juve was struggling to do anything positive in the attacking end in the first half, Dybala was trying to single-handedly win the match for Juve. He had a nice volley that forced a save out of Genoa’s keeper and then followed it up by making an incredible solo run through Genoa’s defense and forcing an even more impressive save. He also played a fantastic ball over the top to Ronaldo in the second half that should have given Juve the lead, but Ronaldo headed it wide. This match only strengthened my opinion that Paulo Dybala has actually been Juve’s best player thus far this season. Hopefully his teammates will give him some help in Juve’s upcoming matches.
