Juventus player ratings vs Genoa: Juve gifted 3 points by Genoa
By John Vaccaro
Adrien Rabiot 5/10
For a second there, I was really excited to get to write nice things about Adrien Rabiot. He had finally started to look comfortable in the Juve midfield and the team’s play instantly improved when he was introduced with Aaron Ramsey. Unfortunately, he went and ruined it by getting sent

off. The sending off was only partially his fault as he was put in a tough spot defending the counter attack, but he may have been better off avoiding a second yellow and just trusting the defense to clean up the mess. The fact that there were positives to take from his appearance is an improvement over past performances, but the sending off really put a damper on things.
Aaron Ramsey 6/10
We finally got to see Aaron Ramsey return to the Juve squad after nearly a month out with injury. It wasn’t the triumphant return fans had hoped for, but he did help spark the squad a bit once he entered the match. He showed some of the sluggishness that plagued the entire squad this match, likely due to the fact he hasn’t seen the field in weeks. Hopefully this appearance will open up the possibility for him to return to the starting lineup soon because Juve looked like a much better team when he was starting.
Douglas Costa 6.5/10
Douglas Costa is finally healthy after nearly 2 months and he nearly got right back on the scoresheet in this match. One of his first touches was a shot that just missed the top corner of the goal. Like Ramsey, Costa looked like he had some rust to shake off in his first appearance after an injury. It was nice to finally see Costa back on the field and hopefully this short appearance will lead to him taking Bernardeschi’s spot in the starting lineup soon.
Manager: Maurizio Sarri 2/10
The fact that Genoa gave this match to Juve will absolutely not save Sarri’s grade for the match. He gets 1 point for the win and 1 because I liked the subs he chose to make. Why he didn’t start Rabiot and Ramsey, I don’t know, but at least he got them in the match when Juve desperately needed a goal. Speaking of the starting lineup, what was Daniele Rugani doing in it? If somebody would have told me before the season started that by match day 10, Sami Khedira would still be starting and Daniele Rugani would be playing ahead of Merih Demiral, I’d have said that person was nuts. What is the point of paying for players like Demiral and Rabiot if you’re going to allow inferior talent to play ahead of them?
If Juve wasn’ going to let these guys play then they could have just saved their money and held on to Moise Kean and Joao Cancelo. After 10 matches (13 when you include the Champions League) the “new coach” excuse stops being as effective. He’s had time to familiarize himself with his squad and he’s had time to install his style of play. The fact that the team has actually looked worse in their last 3 matches than they did at the start of the year. It’s time for Sarri to change something because these performances just won’t cut it against better competition (and shouldn’t have even gotten the win against Genoa). He better figure this out quickly because fans won’t accept anything less than a win in Saturday’s Derby della Mole.
