Barcelona have a whole host of great talent in their academy at La Masia who are set to become the superstars of the future. Here are five.
Barcelona have one of the greatest academies in the history of world football. La Masia, situated in the Catalan city, can be credited with bringing through some of the world’s finest footballing superstars.
Lionel Messi, Xavi, Pique, Iniesta, Busquets and Puyol all came through the ranks at the Catalan side and they are just a short list of names of a much larger and impressive list.
Currently Ansu Fati is the latest youngster who has shone for the Barca first team after making the step-up from the academy, but he isn’t the only one who is expected to make it with the first team.
Here is a list of five current Barcelona youngsters who will surely shine for the Catalan side.
1. Marc Cucurella
Age: 21
Position: Left Back
Cucurella is arguably one of the most promising full backs coming through the ranks in world football right now. He is by far one of the hottest defensive prospects in La Liga and there is little doubt with time he will become a key player for Barcelona’s first team.
After leaving permanently for Eibar following a successful loan spell with the LA Liga outfit Barcelona acted quickly to trigger his buy-back clause and help Cucurella return to the Catalan side.
Cucurella was thoroughly impressive during his time at Eibar. He made 33 appearances for the side in all competitions scoring twice and handing out one assist. Often times, Cucurella was forced to play further up the field in left midfield rather than his preferred left back position. Nonetheless the experience was of great value for the young Spanish defender and strengthened his game going forward.
Cucurella has established himself as a prolific dribbler and a measured defender who has the tools to go all the way in the game.
This season after the Catalans re-secured his services Cucurella impressed in pre-season before making another loan move to Getafe. He has done well with the blue and whites this season already and has made 4 assists in 11 appearances in the La Liga already as well as featuring 3 times in the Europa League.
If he continues those numbers, Cucurella will surely be given the chance to impress at Barcelona next season, and if his form is anything to go by he would certainly make a great addition for the Catalans.
