Juventus player ratings vs Torino: de Ligt goes from zero to hero
By John Vaccaro
Juventus continues to get results even without putting in great performances.
They are the last remaining team in the top 5 leagues who has yet to lose a match this season, but you really wouldn’t see that when watching their matches. The match against Torino was no different.
Torino was the better team in the first half, with Juve allowing them to have way too much time in their half in the first 45 minutes. However, Torino wasn’t able to score an opening goal and the match went to halftime with no score.
Things didn’t look much better early in the second half, but Juve would make changes that finally led to a breakthrough. Gonzalo Higuain was introduced in the 60th minute and quickly made an impact. In the 69th minute he unleashed a volley that required a great save from Salvatore Sirigu to keep the match level. However, on the ensuing corner kick, Higuain would collect the ball on at the far post and pass it to Matthijs de Ligt who would score the match’s opening goal. That would end up being the winner as Juve claimed all 3 points by a score of 1-0.
GK: Wojciech Szczesny 7.5/10
Juventus kept their first clean sheet in a month against Torino and Wojciech Szczesny played a significant part in that. He made a few good saves in the first half to keep Juve from suffering because of their slow start. At this point in the year, I’m sure Szczesny is missing the days where he didn’t really have to do much to keep clean sheets, but this season has shown just how valuable he is to Juve. He’ll be busy again on Wednesday, but he has looked up to the task all year.
