Liverpool showed signs they could be the champions this season…

It was yet another fantastic night under the lights for Liverpool at Anfield. However, this one might just be their favourite for some time. They hosted Manchester City who looked to be their closest rivals heading into this match. To put a long story short, Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated the match in every department.

The game got off to a quick start when Fabinho scored from outside the box within six minutes. The lead was extended, courtesy of an Andrew Robertson cross, met by Mohamed Salah in the City box.

Then, in the second half, Jordan Henderson replicated the cross for Sadio Mane this time. An impressive finish by Bernardo Silva towards the end unsteadied Liverpool a little but they kept their composure and saw out the match.

The game was very interesting from a tactical standpoint. Liverpool headed into this match with the aim to play Manchester City at their own game and it worked. The Reds dominated possession and they would often play the ball out from the back, using the full-backs to their advantage. Manchester City tried to adapt and at times they looked promising but they just couldn’t handle being subservient in the match.

It took immense courage from Jurgen Klopp to bring the match to Pep Guardiola, especially given their track record of scrap wins in the last month. However, it worked for the German manager. If they can keep up this level of game management then there’s no reason why they won’t be sitting top of the Premier League come May.

This is the best Liverpool team in recent history so one would feel like if they can’t win the league with this side, then they never will. They have flair in Roberto Firmino, pace in Mohamed Salah and intelligence in Sadio Mane. The list goes on.

It was a classy display from Liverpool and one which is worthy of all the plaudits they will receive in the coming week. It looked like nobody would take over from City’s dominance but the crown could soon be Liverpool’s.
