Will Arsenal choose to sell to another Premier League club?

Arsenal have a lot of questions to ponder right now. Should Granit Xhaka be sold after his outburst against Crystal Palace? Should Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remain captain after his affiliation with Arsenal Fan TV? Should Unai Emery keep his job despite the run of bad performances?

For once, the board should give the fans what they want. They have been acting out of their own self-interest for too long now and it’s not got them very far. In terms of the Xhaka conundrum, the general consensus seems to be that he should be sold.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are interested in signing Granit Xhaka on loan this January. The toon club are looking to bolster their already strong midfield and Steve Bruce thinks the former Arsenal captain is the perfect man for the job.

Xhaka gets his fair share of critics but credit where it’s due, he would be an excellent addition to the Newcastle squad. While there is competition for places, he has what it takes to be a regular starter and get valuable game time during this tough period. After being stripped of his Arsenal captaincy, there doesn’t seem to be any future for him in North London.

Xhaka is an excellent passer and he will be in direct competition with Jonjo Shelvey. Both possess an impressive range of passes and have the ability to dictate play in the midfield. This would give Steve Bruce plenty of depth when it comes to selecting a balanced midfield.

Xhaka does have his downfalls but a loan spell would be the perfect opportunity to amend those. For one, he needs to work on his attitude and stop diving into reckless challenges. His aggression is not only detrimental to him but also to his teammates should he get sent off. He needs to channel this into a positive, assertive style of play.

If the Swiss international loves Arsenal half as much as he claims to, then his aim will be to improve and push for a return to Emery’s starting eleven. However, he mustn’t feel defeated if this isn’t the case.

He is entering the prime stages of his career so he should be playing at the top level with his chosen destination. He has a whole nation in Switzerland behind him and he’s shown he has what it takes.
