The day that Real Madrid fans have been waiting for could finally come…

Real Madrid fans lost their love for Gareth Bale a long time ago. While there was plenty of excitement surrounding his name in his first few seasons, the Welshman never lived up to his potential in Madrid colours. Now it seems like he is simply hanging by a thread and, in all honesty, should have been sold a very long time ago.

It seems that the reintroduction of Zinedine Zidane has only turned the wheel. The Frenchman is known to be a big critic of Gareth Bale despite his improved efforts this season. He has scored two goals and provided two assists which are average statistics at best for a player in his position. Given his calibre, he should be nearing double figures already.

According to The Sun, Real Madrid officials are “convinced” that his move to Manchester United is a done deal. This couldn’t have come at a better time; it’s also reported that Florentino Perez is trying to get Paul Pogba involved in the deal, which would mean they pay a small cash sum.

More from Real Madrid

Whether or not Manchester United are willing to part ways with Paul Pogba remains to be seen. However, this move does seem to benefit all parties. Pogba has not been going through the best of times this season following persistent abuse from his own fans and he is only running down his contract.

That said, if United are approaching this with any sense of reality then they will know that agreeing to the swap deal is the best thing to do. After all, it’s not like they will be reflecting on the decision too much with Bale arriving.

Bale ages at 30 years old which isn’t young by football’s standards. Especially as a winger, his best assets (speed, skill and stamina) will soon begin to deteriorate. However, over the course of the next few seasons, he still has plenty to offer.

Given his mentality, he will arrive in Manchester with plenty of determination to do well and rub salt into the wounds of Real Madrid. Besides, he knows the Premier League well given his time with Tottenham and Southampton.
