After 12 games of the new Premier League season Arsenal sit sixth, already eight points behind their closest rivals for the top four.

This points tally was not part of the plan for Unai Emery at the start of the season and with performances even more concerning than the results, he has rightly come under pressure from Arsenal fans, journalists and pundits alike.

Replacing Arsene Wenger was always going to be a tough ask but nearly 18 months into his reign and Emery’s Arsenal have regressed and are playing worse football than they were at this stage last season.

With Leicester City and Chelsea in the top four positions at the moment, the opportunity to make a late charge for Champions League is still present, but it will close rapidly unless Arsenal are decisive.

Until this point the Arsenal board have stood behind their man, but with Tottenham moving swiftly to replace Mauricio Pochettino with Jose Mourinho, perhaps the Arsenal board will be triggered into action.

As is often the case, replacing a manager midway through a Premier League season can be difficult, but given the potential squad of players they would have at their disposal, Arsenal remains an attractive proposition for any coach.

Furthermore, as has been shown through the way Emery has  been handled, the new coach would be afforded plenty of time while they try to implement their ideas.

Here are five potential candidates at varying stages in their career that could take over from Emery as Arsenal head coach.
