Jose Mourinho was victorious in his opening match in charge of Tottenham…

Jose Mourinho took charge of his first Premier League match as Tottenham manager. He travelled to London, a city in which he’s very well-known, to face West Ham.

Tottenham went into this match desperate for a win. Before the international break, the Lilywhites suffered a serious dip in form and fell to the bottom half of the league. This is exactly why Jose Mourinho was brought in and he did well to turn the form of Spurs around.

Within the first five minutes, Spurs were on the front foot. There were two instances where Dele Alli played cute balls through to Harry Kane. One of which he found the back of the net, however, annoyingly he was offside on both occasions.

Still, Tottenham persisted and their energetic start was rewarded by Son Heing-Min. Tremendous play from Dele Alli in the buildup put Son through on goal and it was a chance he was never going to miss.

Then, just a few moments later Lucas Moura got on the scoresheet. Dele somehow managed to keep the ball in play following some impressive improvisation. Son played the ball across to the Brazilian who slotted home easily.

Many expected Mourinho to come out in the second half and park the bus but it wasn’t the case. I mean, it was never going to be the case when Harry Kane is yet to score, particularly in a London derby. He scored a header to mark the start of the Mourinho era, a partnership which would truly blossom.

With just under 20 minutes to go, Michail Antonio who was one of West Ham’s better performers, scored a cross-goal shot. Surely now, it was time for Mourinho to park the bus. Well, that he did and it only ended up inviting pressure.

Declan Rice scored a goal in the final ten minutes but it would soon be ruled out for offside. Then, in the final minute of the game, Angelo Ogbonna scored a goal to counteract Tottenham’s hard work.

It was Tottenham’s first away win in 13 attempts, they made a meal of it in the end but it was a special day for the special one.

There were plenty of events to talk about on Twitter. From Mourinho’s notebook to a collectors’ item Serge Aurier nutmeg. Here are the best Twitter reactions from Tottenham’s win…

Chelsea and Manchester United fans would have been watching this match, hoping for Jose Mourinho to fail. However, he proved yet again that he really is the special one.

We all thought that Mourinho would go for his trademark defensive style in the second half. We couldn’t have been more wrong.

Jose Mourinho was busy in the dugout writing notes in his notebook. Fans thought they had sussed out his scribbles based on Harry Kane’s first-half performance.

Dele Alli was the man of the match. However, his impressive display was merely down to a return to his natural role, nothing else. He’s always been this good.

Serge Aurier was particularly impressive in this match. Particularly in the first half, the Ivory Coast international made a few important defensive contributions. This aggressive style of defensive pressing could suit his style.
