LB: Mattia De Sciglio 6.5/10

I wasn’t expecting it to be the case, but Mattia De Sciglio had the same issue in this match that Alex Sandro had the first time Juve played Atletico. I expected De Sciglio to commit to taking away space on the wings and ignore the attacking half of the field. He did the second part, but not the first. He managed to help out in other ways on the defensive end, but it’s disappointing to see a team not learn from their mistakes. Overall, this was a less impressive performance for De Sciglio than the one we saw on Saturday.

CB: Matthijs de Ligt 8/10

Matthijs de Ligt seems to really like being matched up with Atletico Madrid. He stood tall against an endless barrage of crosses the first time these two teams met and in the second match, he was even better. The full backs once again allowed a barrage of crosses, which de Ligt once again handled easily, but he also made a match-saving tackle late in the match. It’s obvious at this point that he has finally gotten comfortable at Juve and it once again made their defense extremely formidable against Atletico.

CB: Leonardo Bonucci 7/10

He didn’t have the highlight reel moment like de Ligt, but this was still another strong match for Juve’s replacement captain. Alongside de Ligt, he helped to completely clamp down on Atletico’s attack and keep them from ever really threatening. He also earned himself a rest in the next match now that Juve has clinched first place in the group. A rested Bonucci alongside this newly adjusted version of de Ligt we’ve been seeing is going to be a dangerous combination.

RB: Danilo 6.5/10

Danilo played better than I expected in this match, but he still made the same mistake as the first time he played against Atletico. He still left way too much space open on the wing and allowed too many openings for Renan Lodi. Luckily for him, Lodi wasn’t able to make an impact anyway and Danilo managed to intercept quite a few Atletico passes. I still think Juan Cuadrado should have gotten the start, but Danilo was alright.
