Arsenal fans will never forget these five players, for all the wrong reasons…

This decade won’t go down in Arsenal’s history books. The naughties were always going to be hard to live up to, especially given their historic and simply iconic invincibles season in the early 2000s.

The 2010-2020 era is almost coming to an end and it has saw many memorable moments for Arsenal fans. For example, the sad but timely departure of Arsene Wenger and three FA Cup titles, making them the most successful club in the history of the English knockout competition.

However, it has also been memorable for rival fans. They will look back on this era as icnonic for the emergence of the “Wenger out” trend, consistent humiliation to Bayern Munich and, of course, a number of trusted Gunners betraying the club.

Without further ado, here are five Arsenal players that betrayed the club in this past decade..

1. Bacary Sagna

Having spent many years developing under Arsene Wenger and becoming one of the best right backs of his generation, Bacary Sagna opted for a move to Manchester City in 2014.

Given the Manchester club’s financial takeover in some year’s prior, many Arsenal fans put it down to the fact that Bacary Sagna was only interested in money. However, thinking rationally, it’s clear to see that the Frenchman wanted to take the step up and win the Premier League, which he clearly deserved.

However, he never managed to win the English top-flight despite a total of years trying. He won the FA Cup in his final season with Arsenal and only managed to lift the League Cup with City, so it’s argued that he shouldn’t have made the switch in the first place.

Arsene Wenger served Sagna well and the infamous picture of the boss kissing his countryman on the head in his last game for the club will never leave the minds of Arsenal fans.

Several years on and all seems to be forgiven. Given the position they find themselves in now, Arsenal fans can understand why many of their top players jumped ship. However, it doesn’t change the fact that Sagna betrayed Arsenal in a time of need, so for that, he kickstarts this list.
