2. Alexis Sanchez

Now it’s time for a more recent example. In January of 2018, Arsenal decided it was the right time to sell their wantaway Chilean Alexis Sanchez. It seemed inevitable at the time that he would eventually leave the club after failing to sign a contract. He was Arsenal’s best player in the 2016-17 season but it seemed likely that he would join Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City.

However, much to the surprise of most people in the football world, he opted to join Manchester United. This meant that not only was he disrespecting Arsene Wenger by signing for the club, but he would also be playing under one of, if not the biggest arch-rival of Arsenal, Jose Mourinho. Still, it wasn’t all doom and gloom since Henrikh Mkhitaryan came the other way.

The Emirates Stadium feared that he would go on to become a success at Old Trafford which was understandable because they knew how great he was. However, things didn’t work out in the end. Despite the massive contract and huge announcement video, the Chilean went down as a flop at Manchester United and has since joined Inter Milan.

It was about time that Alexis left, but Arsenal fans still haven’t forgiven him for the way he went about it.
