Liverpool: The one key factor which could determine Jadon Sancho’s move
By Bence Bocsak
Liverpool are tipped to make a move for Sancho in January after reports claim Dortmund are willing to sell him. This could determine it all.
When one travels to the Signal Iduna Park in Germany the expectation is the same as when one goes to the theatre, the cinema or a concert – pure unbridled entertainment.
The booming orchestra of the Yellow Wall alongside Dortmund’s current conductor in Jadon Sancho who with every touch of the ball makes fans ooze with excitement, delivers a sensational experience for the observer.
Sancho himself has been in outstanding form and he is a pure utter delight to watch. Every flick, sudden step-over, rapid drop of the shoulder or astute pass to cut through the defence seems to have been cleverly coordinated like an accomplished chess player.
Sancho is a sensational footballer born with an innate knack for the game which makes him one of a kind. In years to come he could potentially be up there with the likes of Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo.
Yet the Englishman is merely just 19 years of age and he will still have to hone his skills and continue his development until he can become a player in the same rank as the names above.
Now it seems that having spent a thoroughly successful two years at Dortmund, Sancho is on the brink of a new chapter in his fledgling footballing career. With the Dortmund club willing to let him depart in January according to rumours Sancho is set for a new destination.
That destination could well be Merseyside and yet another illustrious ground in the footballing shrine of Anfield. Liverpool are speculated to be interested in acquiring Sancho’s services in January according to the Independent.
Norwegian journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft via the Bleacher Report has even claimed on Twitter from a ‘very good source in Germany’ that Liverpool are ‘favourites’ to sign Sancho.
At first glance it is hard to see where Sancho could fit in at Liverpool. His favoured role on the wing is occupied by two of the clubs biggest stars in Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane and both see their long-term futures at the club. Yet Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Sancho and Liverpool’s recent Nike kit deal could well mean that both the club and the major global brand will be looking at a new global sensation to boost marketing for the new kit and establish Liverpool as one of Nike’s strongest global assets.
Perhaps space could be opened up for Sancho on the wing in the Reds’ starting eleven if Mohamed Salah is moved further up the pitch as a number nine, a role which he has played before, and Roberto Firmino drops back to play as the man in behind the Egyptian.
The Nike deal has also boosted Liverpool’s transfer budget meaning the Reds could match Dortmund’s excessive valuation without a problem and with Klopp potentially still on good terms with his former club a deal could certainly be hatched out.
Sancho fits perfectly into Nike’s desired global marketing mould. He is already a huge name in Europe and with his sensational talent he will undoubtedly become one of the biggest names in football with the years to come. At Liverpool with the club’s upward trajectory and with the guidance of Jurgen Klopp behind him Sancho could find his sanctuary in the face of his recent criticism and the perfect place for him to grow and fulfil his abundant potential.
