6 reasons Juventus should sell Cristiano Ronaldo this summer

Juve May Not Be Able To Get More Out Of Ronaldo Than They Already Have
With the way that Cristiano Ronaldo has seemed to defy the laws of aging, it’s easy to forget that we are only a couple of months away from his 35th birthday. However, he might be starting to show signs of decline that aren’t going to go away as he continues to age. If he continues to see his performances suffer, then there will be absolutely no way that Juve will be able keep him around. His salary and reputation would make it a requirement that he remains in the starting lineup even if his performances don’t warrant the starting job.
The most troubling part about what a future with a declining Ronaldo is what the past and present look like with the best Ronaldo Juve will ever have. Even with Ronaldo playing well last season,

Juve settled for disappointing quarterfinal exits in both the Champions League and the Coppa Italia. Yes, they won the Scudetto again, but they had been doing that for quite some time without Ronaldo. He was brought in to make the squad better, but instead, they actually claimed one less trophy last year than they had won each of the previous 4 seasons. Now, they aren’t even leading Serie A this season and haven’t looked the part of a real Champions League contender yet. If Ronaldo can’t deliver the Champions League trophy Juve fans have been waiting 2 decades for, then he doesn’t really serve a purpose for the squad.
Juventus and Serie A have already reaped the commercials benefits of Ronaldo’s transfer to Juve. 4 years of Serie A television rights were sold to ESPN shortly after Ronaldo’s transfer and he will likely have little impact on the next US TV deal because his contract with Juventus will lapse that same season anyway. Juve has already gotten their huge boost to jersey sales when they brought him in and shouldn’t see another comparable boost to their yearly jersey sales because of him. Their social media accounts have already seen their followings explode since Ronaldo joined the club. Their added exposure should result in more lucrative deals from Adidas and their other sponsors and they will never need to worry about losing the Jeep logo that resides on the front of their jerseys because the Agnelli family owns a sizable portion of Jeep’s parent company.
Juventus is already reaping the benefits of owning Cristiano Ronaldo, but they should seriously be considering paying to be a part of his decline. This summer will be the perfect time to offload him and still get a decent chunk of the transfer fee they paid for him back, especially if he can turn things around at all in the second half of the season. Hopefully they see the light and move on.
