According to Goal, The Blues are confident they can beat Manchester United to the signing of Sancho next summer, even though the Red Devils are the current favorite to sign the young Englishmen.
The Jadon Sancho sweepstakes just got a whole lot more interesting. Chelsea has now emerged as a favorite to sign Sancho next summer, which would bring him back to his hometown of London.
The Blues are apparently willing to break their transfer record for the 19-year old, who would join an already exhilarating and youthful side at Stamford Bridge that currently sits in fourth place in the Premier League. Frank Lampard has done a spectacular job since taking over at his former club, getting the most out of all of his players. Tammy Abraham has 11 goals to his name this term after starring for Aston Villa last year in the Championship, even though many people doubted he could score at a high rate in the Premier League
Sancho has been at the center of a lot of drama with Dortmund this year, including Lucien Favre making him do training sessions alone after reporting back from international duty late, while also fining him 86,000 euros. Favre then subbed Sancho off just 36 minutes into the Der Klassiker where Bayern Munich thrashed Dortmund 4-0. He’s clearly not happy at the club anymore but Sancho will most likely stay there until the season’s end and make a move elsewhere in the summer.
Even though the youngster isn’t playing as well as he did last year, there’s no denying the enormous talent he is. Sancho is one of the hottest commodities among young talent in world football and Chelsea wants to make him a regular at Stamford Bridge by swaying him away from a possible transfer to Premier League rivals, Manchester United.
With their transfer ban still in effect, Frank Lampard’s side most likely won’t be able to sign anyone until next summer anyway and with Willian and Pedro’s time as a blue looking shorter by the day, Sancho would be the perfect replacement on the attack. His combination of skill, ruthlessness in the final third, and playmaking abilities would make him a perfect fit at Chelsea.
Sancho is also very close friends with breakout number nine Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi, while also playing alongside Christian Pulisic at Dortmund. The blues believe those relationships could help them in their pursuit of the England international.
Despite the animosity surrounding Sancho this year at Signal Iduna Park, he’s still managed to net five goals and tally six assists in just 11 matches. He’s voiced his interest in a move back to the Premier League after failing to break into Pep Guardiola‘s Manchester City back in 2017, so it’s a very high possibility that he finds himself back in England next season.
Chelsea are willing to break the 72 million euros transfer record they spent on Kepa Arrizabalaga for Sancho, while the Red Devils are also certain to spend over 100 million euros for the 19-year old if need be.
But given Manchester United’s rough start to the season and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s struggles at Old Trafford, Chelsea might seem like a more logical place for Sancho to land considering how well they’re doing and the relationships he already has with players on the blues.
It’s too early to make any claims, but it would sure be exciting to see Sancho and Pulisic dribbling past opponents next season on the flanks for Frank Lampard’s side.
