“Manchester is Red” again as Manchester United pull off stunning win over Manchester City.

Manchester United all but extinguished any hopes Manchester City had of getting back in the title race by taking the Manchester Derby by a score of 2-1. Goals by Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial gave United their second high-profile win in a row.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got everything right for the second straight game and can now boast about besting both Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola in a matter of days. The United boss was all smiles at the end of the game.

According to the BBC, he said,

"“We will remember this one – we look so dangerous when we get the ball and go forward against arguably the best team in the world. They are an unbelievable team and to get a result and defend like we did and create as many chances… we should have been three or four up but for some good goalkeeping.”"

More from Manchester United

As Solskjaer mentioned, the win was not a fluke for Manchester United. They were arguably the better team throughout the match. United found themselves 2-0 up half an hour into the game.

What makes matters better for them, and worse for City, is it wasn’t as if it was some sort of tactical masterclass by United that did City in. United simply absorbed pressure, hit quick on the counter, and used their pace on the wings to damage City and it worked to perfection.

In midfield, Fred and Scott McTominay contained the City midfield and were among the brightest spots of the game along with Rashford.

United exposed the weaknesses of Pep Guardiola’s side and deserved to win the match. In the process, they also did Liverpool a favor and made it impossible for City to have any sort of hope of catching up to Liverpool in the chase for the title.

Victories against Spurs and Manchester City is not only important for the players and the club’s supporters, but for the manager as well. Solskjaer has to be feeling like some of the pressure he was facing has been lifted off his shoulders.
