Barcelona: Five ideal candidates to replace Ernesto Valverde
By Bence Bocsak
2. Pep Guardiola
The current Manchester City boss has not been a happy figure on the sidelines for the English side this season. Further and further Guardiola seems to be disenfranchised by City’s lack of club ethos and spirit.
Guardiola has done a great job at Manchester City and had endured previously two remarkable seasons with the blues. The 2018/19 Premier League campaign was especially terrific with City going head to head with the equally brilliant Liverpool and only narrowly conquering over their rivals.
Yet now, Guardiola seems to be suffering with injuries at the club and currently City have a 14 point deficit behind Liverpool. That gap seems way too big even at this stage of the season and it would take a miraculous recovery for Manchester City to overturn it.
Guardiola is clearly unhappy and demotivated at City, it seems he has run his course at the club and he needs a new challenge. His return to Barcelona could be the perfect opportunity for Guardiola to rebuild his passion and energy for the game.
The challenge of rebuilding Barcelona into the footballing powerhouse they once were is one Guardiola would clearly cherish. He is a true Catalonian and he surely misses the city and the people at the club. His return could reignite his passion and with Guardiola knowing the club inside and out and having led them to major success before, he would need no time to settle.
Recently Guardiola’s father via Marca declared that his son could return to Barcelona in the future which will add more fuel to the fire.
