Barcelona: Five ideal candidates to replace Ernesto Valverde
By Bence Bocsak
3. Ronald Koeman
Third on the list is another former Barcelona player and coach in Ronald Koeman. The Dutchman played some of his best football with the Catalans and was also an assistant manager during the late 90s and early 2000s. Overall, Koeman spent almost a decade with the club and he certainly knows Barcelona inside and out.
He has a pretty lengthy and mixed managerial record. He did well at Feyenord and Southampton but was only partially a success at Everton. Though recently Marco Silva has proven just how tough the job at the Toffees can be for even an accomplished manager.
Koeman has moved onto bigger and much greater things since then. He took over the Netherlands national team in a bid to revitalise and build the squad back to their former glory days. So far Koeman has duly delivered. He has got the oranges playing some beautiful free-flowing football and mesmerising teams during every international break.
His got the Dutch teams winning against big opponents too and Koeman has developed an uncanny ability in bringing out the best from some of his national team players such as the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Memphis Depay and Ryan Babel.
Koeman could be exactly the man Barcelona need, with his track record of rebuilding the Netherlands he could do the same job with the Catalans and being already very familiar with the club will help him tremendously.
Though with such a shaky track record and history compared to other managers on this list, his acquisition would certainly pose some risk. In all fairness however, the clubs Ronald Koeman has failed at many others have too and his failures will have only given him more of a learning curve in his managerial style.
