Manchester City are going through a tough period this season…
Cast your minds back to the 1st of February, 2016. Manchester City fans everywhere were excited to welcome their new manager, Pep Guardiola, come the end of the season. It was a season which saw the Citizens finish third in the Premier League and hopeful of change in order to reinstate their dominant status at the top of the English first division.
In his first season in charge, Pep came up against Jose Mourinho of Manchester United but his side finished top of the league with 100 points, completely dominating English football. Then, just last season they repeated as champions, with Liverpool close on their tail, only a point behind.
Many thought that this season, the Spaniard would lead his men to a third consecutive title. However, it has not been going to plan so far. Liverpool are completely dominant, leading by a total of 17 points over City, in third place.

This raises question marks over Pep Guardiola’s future. While the board will feel privileged to have Guardiola at the helm, they will want to be challenging Liverpool at the top of the table. Also, from Pep’s point of view, he doesn’t even like being second best, let alone third best.
One team who are eyeing the situation in Manchester are Barcelona. According to the Sunday Express, the La Liga side are eyeing a potential move for Pep Guardiola at the end of the season. Guardiola spent four successful years managing Barcelona, where he really honed his craft and introduced himself as one of, if not the best manager in the world.
The problem is, Pep has never really stayed in one place for too long. That said, City fans that were hoping to see many more years of him in charge are, quite frankly, delusional.
Whether or not Pep wants to take charge at Camp Nou again is another question. With Jurgen Klopp recently signing a contract extension at Liverpool, City fans will be questioning whether Guardiola is the right man to keep up with the German. If he isn’t, then who is?
Do you think Pep Guardiola will retain his position at Manchester City in the summer?
