Arsenal have had their fair share of transfer nightmares this decade…
With the new year fast approaching and the turn of the decade looming, there’s nothing quite like looking back on what could have been. Unfortunately, as an Arsenal fan, this notion sort of loses its novelty after a while. There have been many (many) transfers that seemed like good ideas at the time, only to be proven wrong.
So from the Squillacis to the Miyaichis, pinpointing the five worst Arsenal transfers of this decade was a difficult, but also rather fun task. So join me, as we facepalm our way through very recent history and hope for a brighter 2020…
5. Denis Suarez
Who remembers when Denis Suarez was an Arsenal player? Yeah, me neither.
Having signed on loan from Barcelona in the 2019 January transfer window, there was plenty of excitement surrounding the Spaniard’s name. He was considered an exciting winger in Spain and, even if Arsenal only used him for a couple of months, he could have been perfect for what Unai Emery was trying to achieve.
However, perhaps amusingly, Suarez played a whopping total of four appearances, and they were average at best. In all fairness, Suarez joined Arsenal at the wrong time but his loan move was nothing but short-lived, as he soon encountered an injury which saw him deemed unfit for the remainder of his loan spell.
Sorry, Denis fans, but he kicks off this list. Only three times less than he did on matchdays.
