The past year has been one of the toughest in the recent history of Arsenal Football Club.

With Unai Emery embarking on his first full calendar year as the club’s head coach, Arsenal’s form quickly nosedived and they missed out on Champions League qualification through both the Premier League and Europa League.

Despite a summer of promise where the club’s hierarchy pulled off a series of impressive looking signings, the 2019-20 season started poorly and before the end of November Emery already faced the sack. Following a brief stint with Freddie Ljungberg as the interim manager, the club finally turned to Mikel Arteta after a lengthy and supposedly thorough recruitment process.

At the time of writing, Arsenal sit tenth in the Premier League table, seven points adrift of the top four and seven points clear of Southampton in 18th. However, despite Arsenal’s struggles in 2019, there are some reasons to be positive about the new year.

From the new coach Arteta to the young talent in the squad, Arsenal have cause for hope. With the Premier League in a state of flux, a number of Arsenal’s rivals struggling and contract situations looking like they may sort themselves out, here are five reasons that Arsenal fans should look forward to 2020.
