January may be a very sweet month for Chelsea if they manage to offload a deadweight off their roster in exchange of a goal-scoring forward.
Chelsea got the better of crosstown rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening by a 2-0 margin, courtesy of a brace from Willian who has been an irregular scorer this season. The Blues became the first team to beat the Lilywhites on three different stadiums in the Premier League and Jose Mourinho’s presence in the opponent’s dugout only made the victory seem sweeter.

Frank Lampard’s men did manage to claim the scalp of a top-six side but Tammy Abraham once again failed to turn up against bigger opposition as did Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic. Michy Batshuayi was once again brought on only as a substitute while Olivier Giroud did not even feature, making his future at the Stamford Bridge look increasingly bleak. Goal has claimed that things may be about to change for the better of Giroud as well as Chelsea in the winter.
Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace has been a hot property amongst Premier League’s bigger clubs and the former Manchester United forward does not seem to have a grand future at the Selhurst Park amid the club’s recent results. Earlier in the season, Roy Hodgson had to bid farewell to one of his side’s best players in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and another one in Wilfried Zaha could be headed on to greener pastures in January.
Olivier Giroud may be used as bait in the deal by the Blues, who are now free to sign players after the reduction of their transfer ban. The former Arsenal striker has not been on Frank Lampard’s team sheet for most of the times this season, so a transfer would be the best thing for him. Moreover, Palace will benefit from his experience and prowess whilst the Blues can reduce their price tag of a reported 80 million pounds on Zaha by exchanging a player.
Boxing Day sees the west Londoners head back to the Stamford Bridge to face Ralph Hassenhuttl’s Southampton side. Following what may be a easy fixture for Chelsea, they head to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal in another London Derby, in what will be Mikel Arteta’s first home outing as the new Gunners’ manager. Zaha wouldn’t be a Chelsea player by then, but things may certainly unfold over a probable transfer.
How much cash do you think Chelsea should pay if they manage to squeeze Giroud into the deal?
