Frank Lampard‘s new-look Chelsea side could welcome another forward in January…

The arrival of Frank Lampard in the summer to replace Maurizio Sarri has worked wonders for Chelsea. Not only do they sit in the top four of the table but a number of their younger players are loving working under the club legend. The likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomoro have been first-team regulars and looked worthwhile of the honour.

The Blues have just come out of an impressive win away from home against Tottenham. They won 2-0 thanks to a combined team effort, with Mason Mount and Willian proving to be the best players on the pitch. The attack is certainly strong for Lampard this season but he could look to bolster his options in this position come January.

According to a report from The Express, Frank Lampard wants to make Timo Werner of Germany his first signing. The RB Leipzig forward has been in excellent form this season, already scoring 18 goals in the German top-flight.

More from Chelsea FC

Werner has scored an impressive variety of goals this season, showing he is not just a one-trick pony. He has scored long-distance goals, volleys and tap-ins. What is most important is that he is able to get into goal-scoring positions, something which could work well alongside the creativity of Christian Pulisic and Jorginho in the Chelsea XI.

Werner has been a transfer target at Stamford Bridge before so the fans need no introduction to him. However, they will be aware of the demand he has surrounding his name currently. He is one of the hottest forwards in Europe this season and heading into the peak stages of his career, some of Europe’s top clubs are going to want to snatch him up.

Given Chelsea’s freedom of FFP restrictions, they will be eager to make a signing they wanted to make in the summer. That said, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Chelsea at least pursue a move for Werner in the new year.

Do you think Timo Werner would be a good addition for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea?
