#8 Anthony Martial (£36 million from Monaco in 2015)

Martial was a surprise summer signing in 2015, when barely anybody knew the teenager from Monaco. Van Gaal took a huge risk by spending a (then) massive £36 million on the youngster, but he’s proven to be an excellent signing.

The Frenchman became a cult hero within minutes of his debut, leaving the Liverpool defense in his wake to score a stunning solo goal at Stretford end.

He’s filled in at left wing and up front when called upon, and remained a regular in spite of the arrivals of players like Memphis Depay and Lukaku.

Martial’s electric speed, ball control and finishing have been invaluable to United over the years. He’s popped up with some important goals, and the fans love him. Yet, there’s a feeling that he’s not reached his full potential. Injuries have greatly reduced his game time, and his work rate has not been up to the mark at times.

The 24-year-old is still very much an integral part of the Red Devils’ squad. His partnership with Marcus Rashford can be almost telepathic at times, and playing as a number 9 under Solskjær, he seems to be back to his best.

Martial has some big challenges ahead of him. United are keen on bringing in offensive reinforcements either in January or next summer, with Erling Haaland being touted as a possibility. With Marcus Rashford and Daniel James being in good form, limited spots are available in the frontline, and the former Lyon star will have to keep improving.
