#7 Sergio Romero (free from Sampdoria in 2015)

Manchester United are very lucky to have Sergio Romero, and the fans are well aware of it. The Argentine number 1 arrived at Old Trafford from Sampdoria in 2015 to replace Anders Lindegaard.

The 32-year-old is beloved by the Old Trafford faithful, and you can see why. He’s made only over 50 appearances for United, and still remains loyal to the club even though he could quite easily be a regular starter elsewhere. That’s the price of being a back-up to David de Gea.

Romero has rarely made a mistake in United’s colors. He’s been an integral part of the titles they won post-Ferguson, keeping a clean sheet in the 2-0 win against Ajax Amsterdam in the 2017 Europa League final.

Considering the mistakes that de Gea has made over the last couple of seasons, any back-up keeper would feel justified in protesting his lack of game time. But Romero has hardly raised his voice, and even reiterated his desire to continue playing at United recently.

He’s been a major reason why United fans haven’t been overly worried about the numerous rumors linking de Dea to Real Madrid in the past. That’s how reliable Romero has been.

The Spaniard must surely be looking over his shoulder now. He’s been one of the club’s most consistent performers, but he’s also cost them a lot of points recently while Romero has been as solid as ever.

United are still involved in 4 competitions this season, and are in the semifinals of the League Cup. That’s one title they can realistically try to win, and Romero has been crucial so far in that regard. The Argentine must be itching to get his hands on the trophy once more.
