Tottenham need an excellent January transfer window to get things right. Here are the moves Jose Mourinho and company can make to achieve a perfect window.

2020 began much the way 2019 ended with an ugly Tottenham loss at Southampton. More important than the final 1-0 score line was just how listless Spurs looked against the Saints. It’s clear Jose Mourinho has a lot of work ahead of him to get the club back on track.

In fairness, one transfer window won’t be enough to fix approximately two years of relative inactivity on the open market. The higher-ups at Tottenham can’t try to fix everything this month. They also can’t afford to sit still. This piece will walk you through all the moves Spurs need to make this month to achieve a perfect transfer window. It won’t transform Tottenham into instant Premier League title contenders, but it would be enough to get Spurs another top four finish.

1. Sell Christian Eriksen for £20 million or more

Eriksen was a terrific player for Tottenham for multiple seasons. At this point, he’s an embarrassment though. It’s time for him to be sold to the highest bidder.

Fortunately, it seems that multiple clubs are highly interested in his services. Per The Express, the talented Dane has already told Mourinho he wants to leave in January. To put it bluntly, its past time. Now Spurs must focus on extracting the maximum amount of value they can from his early departure.

In a perfect world, Daniel Levy can find a way to get him out of the Premier League. It’s believed that Eriksen’s preference is to clinch a deal with Inter Milan. That’s a pleasant enough destination from Spurs’ perspective. They might face Eriksen in Europe, but avoiding him in any type of domestic competition would be a sold outcome.

The plan here is for Spurs to add approximately £20 million to their estimated £60 million transfer war chest by selling Eriksen. That might be slightly ambitious, but it’s the price Tottenham should be demanding. This is the first move Tottenham should make in January.
