Chelsea make their first move to sign Ligue 1 superstar Moussa Dembele from Olympique Lyonnais.
According to Sky Sports, the Blues have stepped up their plans to sign Moussa Dembele from Lyon by making a £34m bid to sign the striker in the January transfer window.
It looks like Chelsea have already seen their first bid being rejected by Lyon. The French giants are confident that they will keep hold of their star striker in the current transfer window.
The 23-year-old striker has continued to be prolific in front of goal for the French club since joining from the Scottish giants Celtic for around £20m in 2018.
Moussa Dembele has scored 30 goals for the Ligue 1 side since joining them and is short listed by Chelsea as one of their primary targets to replace their ageing striker Olivier Giroud.
Olivier Giroud has had a prolific career in the Premier League. He represented both the London giants – Arsenal and Chelsea during the last decade. But now he gets no game time for the Blues, mostly due to the emergence of Tammy Abraham.
It looks like the French striker is set to be leaving Stamford Bridge and the English PL side have lined up another Frenchman as his replacement in the form of Moussa Dembele.
Lyon after rejecting the bid from Chelsea stated:
“Olympique Lyonnais has taken note of certain information relayed by the media suggesting that Moussa Dembele could interest other clubs during this transfer window.
“We would like to reaffirm its wish, as in the summer of 2019, to keep Moussa Dembele.
“The club has full confidence in Moussa and counts in particular on him to build a successful team for the seasons to come.”
Would Moussa Dembele be a prolific signing for Chelsea?
