Chelsea make a substantial offer for one of Europe’s most sought after talents.
Frank Lampard‘s first foray in the transfer window appears to be off to a strong start as Chelsea have tabled a bid for Dinamo Zagreb’s Dani Olmo.
According to Football365, Chelsea have made a bid of €40 million and are awaiting the response from the Croatian side.
Olmo has burst onto the scene in the past year or so with outstanding performances for Dinamo Zagreb, particularly in the Champions League.
He’s impressed so much that he’s been called up to international duty with Spain. He’s caught the attention of numerous big teams across Europe including Barcelona.
Olmo was a Barcelona youth player from their famous La Masia academy. He left the Catalan side back in 2014 at the age of 16 to try his luck abroad.
Diario Sport report that Barcelona have admitted that they are interested in Olmo but that the club has not submitted a bid yet. However, Dani Olmo himself has confirmed that the Catalans have indeed made a bid according to Cadena Cope.
Olmo has expressed that he would like to return to his former side and is happy that the club is interested in bringing him back.
Dinamo Zagreb are going to be asking for a quite a lot to give up one of their best players and may be tempted with Chelsea’s offer.
Barcelona’s plan for Olmo was to bring him during the summer but with Chelsea wanting to sign him now, that may throw a wrench in their plans.
For those who may not recall, Chelsea’s transfer ban was lifted prior to the start of the transfer window and the club reportedly gave Lampard £150 million to spend and are willing to spend some of that on Olmo.
At 21-years old, Olmo has plenty of room to grow and improve. He’s scored eight goals and assisted seven so far this season. While Olmo may get a say in where he winds up, Dinamo Zagreb’s plan is to get the most money they can for him.
With the power and attraction of the Premier League, Chelsea’s offer might be too good to pass up.
