Juventus player ratings vs Cagliari: Ronaldo starts new decade with a hat trick
By John Vaccaro
CAM: Aaron Ramsey 6.5/10
The most important take away from this match was that Aaron Ramsey can actually be used in the starting lineup. I don’t know if it was lack of trust or lack of fitness that kept hm out of the lineup before, but it was clear Juve wasn’t at their best when they were starting Federico Bernardeschi instead of him. I’m sure Ramsey would have liked to have a bigger impact in his return to the starting lineup, but he definitely showed flashes of the value he adds to this squad. He made a few dangerous runs and passed the ball well. He also looked like he might have scored if it weren’t for Blaise Matuidi getting in his way. This performance wasn’t one that we’ll remember past next weekend, but it’s a good sign that he was actually able to start again.
ST: Paulo Dybala 7/10
Paulo Dybala was moved back to striker for the match against Cagliari, but wasn’t able to make an impact up front until just before he was subbed off. He took some bad shots in this match and wasn’t really able to trouble the Cagliari defense too often. However, drawing the penalty that put Juve up 2-0 was plenty to make up for any earlier struggles. It will be interesting to see how Sarri handles Dybala and Higuain now that Ramsey has returned to the starting lineup, but it definitely wasn’t Dybala who was the better of the two strikers in this match.
ST: Cristiano Ronaldo 10/10
It doesn’t get much better than that. Not only did Cristiano Ronaldo score a hat trick in this match, but he also added an assist on the match’s only goal he didn’t score himself. None of the goals had a particularly high level of difficulty, but that doesn’t change the fact that Ronaldo dominated the second half of this match. The match also made it so he has now scored against every club in Serie A since going Juve last summer. This continued the absolute tear Ronaldo has been on recently and should give fans plenty of hope that he’s peaking at the right time to make a run in the Champions League.
