Troy Parrott may not be ready to help Tottenham cover for Harry Kane in the short-term, but the talented Irishman is ready to commit his future to Spurs.

Tottenham fans would love to see Harry Kane make a miraculous return to the pitch from injury this weekend, but it’s simply not going to happen. Spurs fans would also love to see the club bring in a quality backup for their English talisman. That may or may not happen this month.

Fortunately, Tottenham are set to receive some good news about Troy Parrott. According to Sky Sports, the prolific 17-year-old is set to ink a new contract with the Premier League club once he turns 18 years of age next month.

The news that Parrott will commit his future to Spurs isn’t necessarily a surprise, but it is welcome news for a club that is very much in limbo at the moment. The aforementioned injury to Kane has Spurs struggling for attacking answers on the pitch. The recent decision to fire Mauricio Pochettino in favour of Jose Mourinho has also heavily contributed to a feeling of uneasiness around the club.

Parrott won’t be ready to contend for a spot in Mourinho’s starting XI anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to be an important part of the club’s future. He’s the highest rated Academy player at Tottenham currently and losing him would have put a big dent in the club’s reputation for growing and developing young players.

Keeping Parrott was particularly important for Spurs in the aftermath of Mourinho’s appointment. The Portuguese gaffer has been criticized heavily in the past for his failure to develop young players. Parrott leaving would have sent a clear signal to other young players that Mourinho wasn’t interested in helping his future either. His decision to stay at Tottenham won’t completely erase the concerns about Mourinho’s work with young players, but it will quell them for the time being.

dark. Next. Spurs and Arsenal are tangling for talented winger

Tottenham still have a lot of work to do to fix their present options at striker, but at least they can still count on Parrott to man the position in the future. His decision to sign a new deal is great news for Spurs.
