It seems the Liverpool manager has finally found someone who could fill the void of Van Dijk if his star man is ever ruled out with an injury.

At Anfield there has been a chant which has chorused around the stands during every game over the last couple of years. The song is an ode to the club’s current star player, Virgil Van Dijk. It goes: ‘He’s a centre half, he’s a number four, watch him defend, and watch him score.’  The lyrics ring true and the Dutchman has certainly been a spectacle at Liverpool both going forward and defensively.

Virgil Van Dijk seems to be impervious at the moment. For almost an entire year not a single soul could dribble past him on the football pitch. His defending has been stalwart and immaculate. His pace and his towering and bulky figure makes him an attacker’s nightmare.

At Liverpool he thwarts every attack and he is the last line of defence if needed. Virgil Van Dijk is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world right now. Without him Liverpool have often struggled defensively.

Yet whilst most fans would dread to think of it, there may come a time when Virgil Van Dijk will pick up an injury and Liverpool will have to cope without him.

In that instance it seems Jurgen Klopp has identified a potential gem in the name of Sevilla’s Diego Carlos who could become the ideal replacement for Virgil Van Dijk. According to Goal via Empire of the Kop the Reds are interested in bringing Diego Carlos to Liverpool.

The 26 year old Brazilian centre-back only moved to Sevilla in the summer of 2019, but just like Van Dijk, he has made instant impact at the club. His massive bulky frame and his rapid pace has made him just as impervious in LA Liga as Van Dijk has been in the Premier League.

Therefore it is no surprise Jurgen Klopp is vying for the services of the Brazilian. Diego Carlos could not just be an ideal back-up for Van Dijk but also the perfect partner. The pair of them could form an invincible partnership at Liverpool which could dominate the Premier League for years and years.
