Chelsea will turn to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid with the hopes of signing one of their star men to solve their issues out wide on the pitch.

Chelsea let go of the best player of the last decade in Eden Hazard this summer to Real Madrid. To be honest, it was an inevitable transfer that was cooking since the last two or three years, but the Blues made a poor decision of not signing a suitable replacement for the Belgium international a move that is backfiring now.

Frank Lampard’s side is failing to create a lot of chances from the wider areas of the field and those coming are usually made by the full backs. While the Englishman’s options on the wing are plenty, there are either inexperienced players or those who have run past their best and are looking for greener pastures.

Willian is ageing and faces an uncertain future at the Stamford Bridge, as is the case with Pedro, who recently insisted that he would be open to a return to Barcelona. The west Londoners’ other options such as Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi are definitely great players, but not experienced or consistent enough for a side of that stature.

The Blues’ manager has made it clear to the board that he now intends to sign a winger during the year and has had his wishes approved. Crystal Palace superstar Wilfried Zaha was thought to be closing in on a move across town, but a hefty price of 80 million pounds resulted in Frank Lampard pulling the plug on what seemed to an imminent transfer.

Atletico Madrid man Thomas Lemar is now thought to be on the six-time Premier League winners’ radar, as reported by the Standard. Lemar was one of the best players of Monaco’s illustrious 2016/17 side and hence ended up making a move to Spain, but has seen white lights in front of him after Diego Simeone deemed him to be below expectations.

Lemar is now keen on leaving the Wanda Metropolitano and wants a move to England amid interest from the Premier League. Aside of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to have monitored his situation but are not the kind of club who spend big very often. Arsenal were also previously exploring Lemar’s signing, but he ended up heading to Atletico instead.
