Cutrone has struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League, scoring just twice in 12 league matches.

The Italian joined Wolverhampton in the summer but spent just five months with the club before they decided to offload him back to Serie A. According to the Guardian, the former AC Milan striker will join Fiorentina on an 18-month loan spell, with the option to buy if he impresses his new squad.

Cutrone joined Wolves in the summer from Milan for 16.2 million euros but has failed to lock down a starting spot for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, featuring in the starting XI just three times in Premier League fixtures. He played the full 90 minutes on just four occasions during his short spell with Wolverhampton, but all of those appearances were in either League Cup or Europa League competition.

Cutrone has battled a tough spell for the last two seasons, bagging just nine goals in over 40 appearances across all competitions with Milan last year, while scoring just the two goals this term so far. His 2017/18 campaign was his best by far, netting 18 times in 46 appearances.

The 22-year old is still very young though and his best years of football should be ahead of him. Cutrone joins a Fiorentina side who currently sit 15th in Italy’s top flight, scoring just 22 goals in 18 matches. They lack a serious threat in the final third, with Dusan Vlahovic, Nikola Milenkovic, Erick Pulgar, and Gaetano Castrovilli all tallying three goals apiece. Giuseppe Iachini‘s side is keen to bolster their attacking options, so this signing is the first step. Although Cutrone has struggled this season to find the back of the net, a change of scenery back to his homeland could pay off.

It’s always a difficult transition coming to the Premier League, especially when you’re just 22-years old. It’s highly touted as the best league in the world for a reason. Cutrone’s form in 17/18 proves that he has the ability to be a clinical finisher in the final third.

Fiorentina has two seasoned footballers in Franck Ribery and Kevin-Prince Boateng, so being surrounded by two players who bring a wealth of knowledge to the table could be beneficial for Cutrone’s development up front.

dark. Next. Spurs are taking a massive transfer risk

It’s disappointing that his Premier League career didn’t last long, but the hope is that he can find his best form back in Serie A once again.
