Frank Lampard will finally have his central defender at the end of this month if all goes well in regards to Chelsea negotiating with the “next John Terry“.

Chelsea have endured a pretty inconsistent season in the Premier League so far, finding themselves fourth in the table following 22 match days. The Blues can count themselves fortunate enough to be in contention for the Champions League because their rivals in Arsenal and Manchester United have been worse than them in truth.

Frank Lampard’s side has won just 12 of its 22 matches, drawing thrice and losing seven times in the running. The Englishman has been quick to display his unhappiness at the squad with their failure in staying on song quite a few times at the end of matches and has been bold with the additional requirements he sees would lead to improvement.

Having struck 39 times so far in the season, the Blues are lacking cutting edge in the final third and will focus on signing a striker, but it’s a central defender’s signing that is more important since as many as 29 goals have been shipped in so far which is quite a lot for a side like Chelsea known for having an otherwise sought after defensive organisation.

Express has claimed that the Blues will approach Lewis Dunk of Brighton & Hove Albion this month over a potential transfer. Dunk has been with the Seagulls since his earlier days and was instrumental when they made their way into the top flight from the Championship in 2017. Having proven to be much better for Brighton, Dunk is open on moving elsewhere.

The west Londoners have likened Dunk’s aspects in the centre of defence to those of club legend John Terry who was a complete package. Just like his idol John Terry, Lewis Dunk has a big physique and composure in defensive situations in addition to good aerial ability that aids whilst coming up against aerial threats as well as in attacking set pieces.

Brighton & Hove Albion value their skipper at 50 million pounds, a price that Chelsea must pay in order to fix their defence. To be honest, Antonio Rudiger and Kurt Zouma have not been anything great this season, while Andreas Christensen is a forgotten man now. With Fikayo Tomori needing a reliable partner, Dunk’s profile exceeds that of Nathan Ake too.

Do you see Lewis Dunk coming close to John Terry’s legacy if he signs up for the Blues?
