Arsenal: 5 reasons why Mikel Arteta must keep Mesut Ozil
By Kian Long
4. He is everything Arteta needs
Case study. Why are Manchester City so potent in attack? Obviously, it is down to the finishing of their strikers but this would be redundant without the creativity around them. Guardiola surrounds the play around the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva in the middle.
It’s no coincidence that these players are who Ozil is compared with the most often. They are all die-hard creators and they are known as the assist kings for a reason. While Ozil has slumped in this regards lately, a little trust from his manager can go a long way.
With the attacking philosophy that Arteta wishes to implement at Arsenal, there is no better man to fill the creative role than Ozil. Period.
5. He’s a World Cup winner, for crying out loud

I know, I saved the cliche until last. But come on, you can’t deny that having a World Cup winner in your starting XI is worth keeping? I mean, Arsenal would still have Shkodran Mustafi but, well, I’ll let you finish that sentence.
Ozil has played at the highest level throughout most of his career, whether that be with Real Madrid, Germany, Arsenal, or even Schalke at times. And don’t let the myth bewilder you, he is a big-game player. He has excelled for Arsenal against the likes of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham. You name them, Ozil has outplayed them.
It’s this kind of winning mentality which is needed at Arsenal and Arteta knows that. So, for all of these reasons and many more, I cannot see Mesut Ozil being sold this January.
How about you? Perhaps you think that Ozil should be sold and if so, I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments section. Let’s keep the debate going!
