Manchester United finally given a lifeline for Haaland alternative
By Kian Long
Manchester United may have found their man, although they will need to wait…
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows what it takes to be a great striker so he will know that what’s available to him right now simply isn’t good enough. Marcus Rashford is too inconsistent and Anthony Martial is better used out wide. That said, the Red Devils don’t have many solid options in the front line.
This has shown in the league as they have scored only 36 league goals. Of the “original” top six, only Arsenal have scored less than them. This is simply not good enough, especially when you compare their tally to their Manchester rivals City, who have scored an astonishing 62 goals this term.
Manchester United made their intent clear before the transfer window even began. However, they were served heartbreak as their main transfer target, Erling Braut Haaland, opted to join Borussia Dortmund a few weeks ago. Now their options include Mario Manduzukic and Edinson Cavani, it would appear.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have heard back from Paris Saint-Germain. Reportedly, they won’t be selling Edinson Cavani but a source has told MEN that Cavani won’t be renewing his Parc des Princes contract so he will be free to leave in the summer, with United a very real possibility.
Cavani is everything that United need going forward. He obviously has the finishing, that goes without saying but his most impressive asset is actually his work off the ball. No, I’m not talking about the English cliche of tracking back, I’m talking about his movement to get into clinical spaces.
Think about it. You have Paul Pogba on the ball, he has plenty of runners forward. The options he has to play the through ball to are Anthony Martial, Daniel James, Marcus Rashford etc. This is all well and good since they have the speed to burn but the question is, do they have the end product? Well, the short answer is no. At least nowhere near the level of Cavani.
Therefore I think that signing Cavani would be a good move, even if United need to wait until the summer to secure his signature. Solskjaer, should he remain as boss, would not need to shift his philosophy and Cavani would bring clear improvements to the side and give them everything they need. Goals.
Do you think Manchester United should continue their pursuit of Edinson Cavani?
