The Barcelona coach has only just recently taken over at the Nou Camp but it seems he is on the brink of making his first signing.

Quique Setien arrives at Barcelona with a lot of promise. After the barren and often lifeless style of play under Ernesto Valverde, the Catalans seemed to have been given a breath of fresh air.

Setien is known for his tiki-taka style and his strong possession based football. The Spanish coach is renowned for playing football in the way Barcelona have always gone out to play under the likes of Johan Cruyff and Pep Guardiola.

Yet Setien comes at a time when the Catalans are in a bit of a sticky situation. Real Madrid are currently level on points at the top of the table with Setien’s side and Barca are at a genuine threat of being dethroned for the La Liga title. Real Madrid have already won the Supercopa this season which will comes as a bitter disappointment for the Catalan fans.

The squad isn’t quite as star studded as it once was and some of its stars seem to be on the final few years of their prime, meanwhile others are far from it, but Setien still has a decent team at his disposal.

And it seems there might be new blood added to the Barca squad very soon with Setien set to make his first signing.

According to Spanish outlet Diario Sport via the Daily Mail Barcelona are set to sign the Boca Juniors defender Santiago Ramos Mingo.

The young Argentine centre-back has only just turned 18 years of age in November but he has been making great strides at the legendary club Boca Juniors and has been impressing in the club’s youth set-up.

A strong and composed defender, he is excellent on the ball and perfectly suited for Quique Setien’s style of play.

Santiago Ramos Mingo could become the long term replacement for the club former player and his fellow compatriot Javier Mascherano.
