It’s time for Manchester United fans to get excited…

The January transfer is well underway and Premier League teams are in the process of planning their best strategy for the rest of the season. That said, dipping deep into the transfer window could be the best solution for Manchester United, who are struggling to keep pace on the top four.

Having missed out on their primary target earlier in the window, Erling Braut Haaland, the United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be determined to make it up to his supporters with a big move. News broke yesterday that Paris Saint-Germain would not be selling Edinson Cavani in this transfer window.

However, the Red Devils aren’t letting these two disappointments defeat them. According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are “close to reaching an agreement” with Sporting Lisbon for the signing of attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes. Having sparked plenty of Premier League interest in the past, the Red Devils will know all about what Fernandes can bring to the club.

More from Manchester United

Fernandes has been in exceptional form this season which could easily bump up Sporting’s valuation of him. Especially in the Europa League, he has put in some excellent displays. Most notably, I recall him single-handedly dominating PSV. He got two goals and two assists in a performance which oozed class from him.

Fernandes often plays between the lines of attack and midfield, often acting as the anchor. Much like Paul Pogba, he will often drop deep to pick up the ball and get his side on an attacking front. He has an excellent range of passing and his finishing is impressive too.

Should Manchester United wish to sell Pogba this transfer window, then Fernandes would be the right man to bring in. He would get the best out of the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and, if he can’t do that, then he will use his goal-scoring ability to benefit Manchester United.
