Sell Andrea Ranocchia

It’s been a good run at Inter for Andrea Ranocchia, but I believe it’s time for that run to come to an end. Ranocchia has rarely seen the field this season, making only 2 appearances for the year and I don’t see things getting any better for him the rest of the season. Inter Milan’s defense has a strong claim to being the best in the league right now and that’s because they are anchored by 3 very talented center backs. Inter will be starting all 3 of those center backs as frequently possible as the chase the Scudetto. However, Ranocchia isn’t even the 4th option at Inter anymore.

Recently, it has been Alessandro Bastoni getting the start whenever one of Diego Godin, Milan Skriniar, or Stefan de Vrij are unavailable. Starting him is much more beneficial to Inter because he is only 20 and is already showing the potential to be an important part of their defense in the future. To make matters worse, Danilo D’Ambrosio has been used more at center back than Ranocchia, so even when Inter gets desperate, they have a 5th option they can play instead of Ranocchia.

For Inter, it would be better to let a player who served them well early in the last decade leave before this saga gets ugly. He still has another year left on his contract, so if they don’t find a destination for him, this could drag out for a while with him continuing to waste his career on the bench.

There is also likely to be a better market for him now than over the summer. There are some miserable defenses at the bottom of Serie A who would likely welcome his experience to try to fix their squad as they struggle to avoid relegation.

Ranocchia is another player who likely won’t fetch much of a transfer fee, but now is the right time to let him move on.
