Liverpool are hoping to make a major signing by stealing a player that has been on the radar of Premier League rivals Chelsea since a few months.

Chelsea and Liverpool are usually competing against each other for the title, but things have been different this season. The Reds have been at their brilliant best whilst the Blues have not been able to really find their flare, meaning that there is a 25 point different between the two, with the defending Champions League winners having a game in hand.

Frank Lampard’s issues are spread all over the field but if there was any chief amongst those, it is the conversion of chances. Chelsea are heavily reliant on Tammy Abraham for the goods and the former Swansea City loanee has been their top goal scorer this season. They are keen on lifting some pressure off his shoulders and monitored some strikers.

RB Leipzig’s talisman Timo Werner tops Chelsea’s shopping list, but the west Londoners seem to have been fazed by the German forward’s lofty price tag of 51.2 million pounds. Moreover, at the moment, Lampard has decided to prioritize on the signing of a goal scoring winger in order to address the lack of goals, with Zaha and Sancho being key targets.

Football London has reported that Liverpool have swooped into the hunt and will now try to sign the Germany international. RB Leipzig are table toppers in the Bundesliga by a four point margin and owe a lot to their key striker, who has also been their hero in the Champions League, and thus, the Reds would also make the most of his services.

Jurgen Klopp is thought to be a massive fan of his compatriot, but Werner on his part believes that Salah, Mane and Firmino being in red-hot form throughout the season may impede his growth and minutes. While the player himself admires Liverpool, the fact that he may become a sporadic feature at the club is a key point of disinterest.

Besides Chelsea and Liverpool, Bayern Munich as well as Real Madrid have shown interest in the frontman but a move to either of them seems unlikely. The Bavarians already have a potent Robert Lewandowski on their side, whilst the Merengues have Karim Benzema in addition to a young and twinkling Luka Jovic in their roster.

So long as Chelsea’s interest in the player is concerned, breaking the bank on Werner must be a no-brainer for them given that he is a proven goal scorer. Additionally, it has been quite a long time since they made a marquee signing and they do need a player of his profile in order to cause some excitement amongst the fan base too.

Liverpool meanwhile kept marching towards the title, courtesy of a 2-0 victory against Manchester United whereas Newcastle United claimed a 1-0 success versus Chelsea, turning the odds upside down. By looking at their current form, it is pretty clear which side requires the signing of a goal scoring striker and non-debatably so.
