Juventus player ratings vs Roma: Douglas Costa shreds Roma defense
By John Vaccaro
LB: Alex Sandro 6.5/10
Alex Sandro was not a name I was expecting to see listed in the starting lineup for this match after he injured his ribs over the weekend, but the fact that he was healthy enough to play was certainly welcome news, especially after Danilo was injured. I don’t know if it was because he was still feeling the effects of his injury, but we didn’t see the same attacking aggressiveness out of him in this match that we had been seeing recently. That left him to a defensive role where he just wasn’t overly influential. Hopefully once his rib issue is healed he can go back to being the attacking player we saw over the last week.
CB: Daniele Rugani 6.5/10
Daniele Rugani continues to play well enough for Juve to feel comfortable with him in their starting lineup. He wasn’t asked to do too much in this match, but he did help break up a couple of threatening Roma attacks. I don’t expect that we’ll see much more of him now that Juve is deep into each of their competitions, but they should feel safe starting him against some of their weaker Serie A competition if Bonucci or Matthijs de Ligt need to rest.
CB: Leonardo Bonucci 8/10
As usual, Leonardo Bonucci led Juventus to a strong defensive performance, but in this match he also came up big on the other end of the field. He was also in the right spot to score a header off of Douglas Costa’s beautiful cross at the end of the first half. Juve’s captain once again showed why he has been given that honor this season.
RB: Danilo 6/10
The injuries continue to stack up for Juventus. After losing Merih Demiral 10 days ago and seeing Alex Sandro suffer a rib injury on Sunday, Danilo picked up a muscular injury against Roma on Wednesday. He wasn’t able to make much of an impact before he exited the match. He took a shot that looked like it might have a chance, but it went wide of the goal. He didn’t make any defensive mistakes during his 41 minutes either. Hopefully his removal from the match was precautionary and he won’t be out too long.
