Arsenal are very close to agreeing a $40 million fee for Thomas Lemar from Atletico Madrid, according to claims.

Since 2017, in every transfer window, we have witnessed Thomas Lemar to Arsenal links. The rumors started when the gunners publicly made a $100 million bid for him when he was at AS Monaco. The deal did not materialize as Lemar had no interest in the North London outfit. The next summer Atletico Madrid signed him for a fee of $52.7 million.

Since his move to the Spanish capital, Lemar has struggled. In his, 18-month spell in Madrid, he has made 69 appearances scoring 5 goals and assisting 6 times.  Atletico manager Diego Simeone has publicly stated that he has failed to deliver the expectations of the club.

However, Arsenal have recently shown their interest in Thomas Lemar. According to @elgolazodegol on twitter, they are close to agreeing $40 million deal with Atletico Madrid for the French international.

Arsenal do not have a natural left-winger. They have often used Aubameyang at left-wing. However, Aubameyang has been linked with a move to FC Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo. If he does end up leaving London, Lemar could be a good replacement. Even though Lemar has struggled at Madrid, that does not mean he is a flop. Atletico’s style of play is very different than the gunners. At the age of 24, Lemar is still young and he can become instrumental under the guidance of Arteta.

If Arsenal do end up signing Lemar, then what would that mean for the rising star Gabriel Martinelli. What kind of playtime can he expect? There are some questions that will arise with the signing of Lemar but that does not mean that buying Lemar for $40 million will be idiotic. Lemar will only improve Arsenal and can add a new dimension to Arsenal’s attack with his versatility.
