Adrien Rabiot 5/10

I really thought that Adrien Rabiot should have been given the start in this match, but his performance, once he came on, didn’t do much to help my argument. He wasn’t able to help Juve develop anything particularly dangerous and didn’t have much influence on the match during his time in it. I’m still hoping he gets the start next weekend.

Federico Bernardeschi 5/10

Federico Bernardeschi was one of two subs Sarri brought on to try and turn this match around with about 20 minutes left, but Bernardeschi barely even got involved. He only had 11 touches and didn’t seem to change Juve’s attacking ability at all. It’s tough to judge a player based on 20 minutes where they barely touch the ball, but this didn’t produce the same optimism as his last appearance in the midfield.

Douglas Costa 5/10

Douglas Costa’s match went pretty much the same way as Bernardeschi’s. He barely touched the ball and didn’t do much with it when he did get it. He misplaced a few passes on counterattacks that were intended for wide options that just weren’t there. I expected more when Costa was subbed on, but he wasn’t able to lift the squad.

Manager: Maurizio Sarri 0/10

More from Serie A

This grade isn’t because Juventus lost to Napoli and allowed both Inter and Lazio to close the gap at the top of the table. It’s because everything about this performance was miserable. First of all, I can’t believe Sarri thought starting Blaise Matuidi in this match was a good idea. He has done an awful job this season figuring out when it’s time to bench his old midfielders and it was extremely costly in this match.

I also thought it was odd that he chose to sub in Douglas Costa instead of Aaron Ramsey and then not use Costa and Ronaldo to stretch Napoli’s defense. The absolutely horrible, lethargic play of the teams also completely falls on the manager.

I can’t imagine how you can bring a team into a match against a squad that has been their biggest rival for the last few years and have them so completely unprepared. This was the worst match we’ve seen out of Sarri yet this year and he needs to seriously reconsider how he is handling this squad right now.
