Real Madrid will look to follow up on their successful January of seven wins out of seven with three more points against rivals Atletico Madrid.

Almost three weeks after getting the better of their crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, Real Madrid host Diego Simeone’s men at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening. Zinedine Zidane’s men are riding a 20 match unbeaten run and will be hoping for a victory that would keep them three points clear at the top of La Liga.

During the mid-week, Real Madrid reserved a spot for themselves in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals after triumphing by a 4-0 margin against Real Zaragoza and set a tie with Real Sociedad in the next round. Meanwhile, Atletico had a complete rest for the week after being knocked out by Cultural Leon in the round of 32 of the cup.

We take a look at five factors which may help the Whites in trouncing their neighbours.

Real Madrid are in fantastic form

Real Madrid have been in superb form over the last couple of months and are to taste defeat in just a little more than three months. Palma de Mallorca was the last side which handed Zidane a defeat and since then, the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid themselves have failed in beating the Merengues.

Zinedine Zidane’s men have managed to sort out their defensive organisation and are the most stubborn backline across the top five European leagues this season. While they may not be scoring three and four goals every time they step onto the pitch, they usually end up getting the goods and as many as 18 players from their roster have gotten goals this season.
