LB: Alex Sandro

As has been the case for most of this season, there is no question about who will be starting at left back for Juventus. That’s mostly because of his talents, but it’s also partially because there isn’t actually another option. Mattia De Sciglio remains injured and the swap deal for Layvin Kurzawa fell through, so Alex Sandro is the squad’s only healthy option here. He has played well on the defensive end this season, but has really been a disappointment in the attacking half. This was especially clear last weekend as the Juve attack struggled and he offered little support. Hopefully he can change that this weekend against a Fiorentina squad who held Juve scoreless earlier this season.

CB: Leonardo Bonucci

Juve’s center backs were surprisingly uninvolved against Napoli last weekend, but I expect to see that change quickly against Fiorentina, especially for Leonardo Bonucci. If Fiorentina doesn’t test the defense early, then Bonucci will begin to push up the field and join the attack. As captain, I expect him to step up for Juve in a big way in this match to help them work past last weekend’s disappointment.

CB: Matthijs de Ligt

Like Bonucci, Matthijs de Ligt didn’t have too much of an impact on last weekend’s match, but I expect him to be more influential on Sunday. He’ll likely be regularly left alone to protect against Fiorentina counter attacks while Bonucci is pushing forward and that should give him a chance to shine as he protects Szczesny’s goal.

RB: Juan Cuadrado

The situation at this full back position is similar to the situation at the other position. Juan Cuadrado also currently has no competition for this starting job thanks to injuries to De Sciglio and Danilo. in his case though, that might be the only reason he is still the starter. He had a great run early in the season, but has since regressed bak to what we expected when Juve was first forced to put him in this position. He’ll get another start for this squad, but I think he is the clear weak link in this starting lineup.
