Midfield: Casemiro

Casemiro has been Real Madrid’s best player this season and that’s why he’s the first name on the team sheet. He will act as the most defensive midfielder of the trio but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the final third on the odd occasion.

Midfield: Federico Valverde

This was a tough one to call. I am a huge fan of Luka Modric but unfortunately, I feel like he won’t make this game. Though, one man’s loss is another man’s gain as I expect Federico Valverde to start in this match and continue his good form.

This switch is one that just makes sense as far as Zinedine Zidane is concerned. Valverde fits the box-to-box mould more than Modric does and this energy is what’s needed in the Atletico match. Real Madrid will have limited chances so having as many players in the final third that have the athleticism to track back will be ideal.

Midfield: Toni Kroos

This decision was far easier. Kroos is the midfield general and all play seems to run through him. That said, he will be crucial if Real Madrid want to pick up all three points in this match.

Kroos will work hard to keep the midfield play ticking and to keep the passes in a good rhythm. He will also be brave enough to switch the play and add a new dynamic when he feels things aren’t working out. I would highly expect Kroos to come out of this match with the most touches of the ball.
