If Liverpool fans could have one wish, it would be to keep Virgil van Dijk…
Liverpool are the best team in Europe right now and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon. The current champions of Europe have pretty much secured the Premier League trophy as they are yet to lose a single game in the campaign. Fans have seen significant improvements and it’s all down to the work one man, Jurgen Klopp.
Since taking the leap from Borrusia Dortmund, the German manager has taken his time to perfect this Liverpool squad but he is nearing close. The transfers of Andrew Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are all indicative to the immense progress made by the Reds which has led to their latest success.
According to the Football Insider, Liverpool are devising strategies to keep ahold of Virgil van Dijk, the brute defender they signed from Southampton a few seasons ago. It’s thought that the Anfield hierarchy will offer the defender an astonishing £150,000 per week to keep him tied down under contract.

Van Dijk is a physical presence like no other. Attackers hate playing against him because it is virtually impossible to get past him with the ball still at your feet. Many have tried and many have failed and this is all down to the Dutch’s sixth sense for the ball.
His leadership qualities are also second to none. If a defender is out of position, Van Dijk will be the first to fix it and this is exactly why Liverpool look so defensively organised nowadays. The likes of Joseph Gomez and Dejan Lovren have seriously benefitted from his arrival.
With all that in consideration, it’s clear to see why Liverpool are willing to splash the cash to keep him at the club. It’s always going to be difficult to turn down the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona if they come calling but with Klopp’s trust and the Liverpool project in full motion, Van Dijk’s best option would be to remain a Liverpool player.
