While Manchester United have signed Odion Ighalo in January, the Red Devils still need to sign a better long-term option in the summer.

Ighalo will be expected to make his debut against Chelsea in United’s next Premier League fixture. The 30-year-old will become the first Nigerian international to play for the club.

Fans are excited about his debut given that United have struggled in the absence of a traditional striker since Romelu Lukaku last year. But Ighalo’s loan deal only lasts until the end of the season, and its highly doubtful that United will make it permanent.

More from Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjær will be faced with the prospect of signing another striker in the summer – a truly world-class forward will be required if United are to mount a title challenge.

The Norwegian will certainly be spoiled for options. Even though United missed out on Erling Haaland to Borussia Dortmund, there are several other players impressing fans across Europe’s top 5 leagues.

Here we take a look at 3 such players who could realistically be targeted by United to lead their line next season.

3. Raul Jimenez (Wolves)

Easily one of the top 3 strikers in England.

Jimenez has been exceptional for Wolves ever since he joined them on loan from Benfica in 2018, scoring 13 goals in his first Premier League season. It’s no surprise that Wolves chose to make his signing permanent last summer.

This season, he’s already hit 11 goals with a further 3 in the Europa League. Wolves are still in the hunt for European qualification, and the Mexican has played a huge role in that.

Still only 28, Jimenez is just hitting his peak. For a striker, his hold-up play and distribution are exceptional, and he’s lethal inside the 18-yard box.

Surprisingly, not many teams are being linked with him. It’s a situation that United should look to exploit given that it will be next to impossible to sign a striker of Jimenez’s qualities with Premier League experience.

Signing Jimenez will still be far from easy, especially if Wolves manage to go far in the Europa League. But the former Atletico star is tailor-made for the way United are trying to play under Solskjær, and Ed Woodward should do everything he can to bring him to Old Trafford.
