Jose Mourinho’s tenure at Tottenham has been mostly positive, but the Special One has already made these five errors at Spurs.

Tottenham have certainly improved their form since Jose Mourinho’s arrival. That doesn’t mean The Special One has been perfect at Spurs. This piece outlines five serious errors the Portuguese manager has made in North London.

It’s important to note this isn’t a piece claiming that Mourinho isn’t doing a good job. On the contrary, he’s straightened out large parts of the mess left to him by Mauricio Pochettino. There are valid questions about his long-term fit at the club, but he’s done a good job of grinding out results in the short-term.

It’s not been a perfect job by Mourinho though. He’s already made some errors that might come back to cost him. This piece discusses his five most serious mistakes to date.

5. Exiling Juan Foyth

It’s now apparent that Foyth’s future lies away from Tottenham. He got one real opportunity to thrive under Mourinho and he blew it. The Argentine centre back has no one to blame but himself for his poor play during that audition, but it doesn’t mean he’s without talent.

He is a player that should have been given more of an opportunity. Yes, he takes too many chances with the ball at his feet, but he also has a remarkable amount of skill for a central defender of his age. Foyth is someone Mourinho should be trying harder to develop.

Instead, it seems a foregone conclusion that he’ll be sold this summer. Tottenham should get a reasonable fee for his services, but it will go down as a missed opportunity for Mourinho and his coaching staff. Look for them to identify a big-money centre back to take his place in the transfer market.
