1. Failing to demand a striker in January

Mourinho’s use of the press is in line with the way he’s always operated. In sharp contrast, his failure to demand that Daniel Levy sign a striker in January was very out of character for the Portuguese gaffer.

Ultimately, the club’s failure to sign cover for Kane might cost them Champions League football next season. Tottenham still have a chance to secure the No. 4 spot in the Premier League table, but goals have been hard to come by without Kane on the pitch.

The party line from Spurs has been that the club didn’t want to spend big money on a player who couldn’t help them after Kane returns to the pitch. That makes fiscal sense in the short-term, but it might cost them the resources associated with Champions League football moving forward. That certainly is a very complex financial gamble on behalf of Spurs.

Next. Tottenham must control Jack Grealish. dark

It’s very likely going to be a gamble that backfires on Mourinho. Missing out on Champions League football will cut down on the club’s spending power in January. That likely won’t sit well with Mourinho. Spurs fans should expect to hear a lot of complaining from their manager in the summer when he doesn’t getting the financial backing he desires.
